Sasol has an open position for a Chemist at the Lake Charles Chemical Complex within the Inorganics Specialties Research and Development Department.  We are now seeking qualified candidates for the selection process. Below are some details of the Chemist job requirements:

Chemist Job Requirements, Lake Charles Louisiana: 

• Responsible for safely conducting a broad spectrum of laboratory experiments under the direction of senior researchers
• Responsible for integrity and operation of company equipment, and adherence to safety, health, and environmental procedures
• Responsible for understanding Sasol's procedures for securing intellectual property; responsible for appropriately recording laboratory results for use in developing intellectual property
• Demonstrates feasibility of technologies defined or developed by senior scientists within R&D

Chemist Job Experience and Education Requirements, Lake Charles Louisiana:  

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or progression from the Associate Chemist position based on additional experience
• 2+ years of industrial research and development experience preferred
• Experience with pressure vessels and pilot plant equipment preferred
• Ability to define, and implement ideas and solutions
• Strong mathematical/laboratory skills
• Computer competency in required software 
• Good oral and written communications skills

• The ability to work independently exists, such that typical assignments can be completed with moderate supervision:

  • Solve average complexity plant problems.
  • Size of project investment assigned is up to $10 million.

• Through several years of building experience in the discipline or domain the employee has reached the point where they understand theories and concepts of their domain.
• Has gained expertise in one or more areas, and is recognized as having that expertise.
• Independently develops new or improved products/processes/techniques related to their area of expertise.
• Independently drives projects to completion.  Understands how and with whom they need to work with to complete an assignment.  Results are typically reviewed/critiqued after achievement of pre-established milestones, or work is completed.

• Minimum of BS degree in Engineering, or equivalent
• 5 years relevant experience preferred
